Presidents
Message October 2001 I
start this presidents message on a sad note and with a request for all of
your prayers. I dont have to
tell anyone about the prayers needed for our fellow Americans who were affected
by the horrible events that took place in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
The need for your prayers has also hit very close to home.
Jim Illg, one of our most friendly, active, caring and giving members
passed away on September 18th. Jim
was not only a great member of our club, but he was also a very good friend.
Please join me in remembering Jim and his family in your prayers. The
month of September has proved to be a very busy month for the Mens Club.
First of all I would like to thank everyone who attended our first
meeting in September. Over 117
people signed the list at the front door. Please
remember to sign the list at the front door at every meeting you attend.
You will be eligible to win a prize at the end of the year for attending
our meetings. Many of the people
who attended the meeting paid their dues, but we still have many people who
havent paid. Please plan to pay
your dues at our meeting on October 3rd, at 7:30pm. According to our bylaws, all dues have to be paid by our
November meeting. I want to thank
Roy Labourdette and his membership committee for making our rush party one of
the most successful membership drives we have ever had. Thanks to Tom Makee and Jerry White for cooking Jambalaya and
Gumbo at our first meeting. The
Fishing Rodeo for Britney Dugas was also a success.
Thanks to Jerry White and Mickey Lacombe and their committee for
dedicating their time, money and labor in making this event successful.
A check will be presented to Britneys family at the October meeting.
Rose Geis wanted me to thank all of you who contributed money to help out
with her expenses during her time of need.
Thanks to Donald Duzac and Steve Hebert for cooking breakfast for the
workers at the playground construction refurbishment. Everyone enjoyed the fresh hot breakfast.
The final event of the month will be the Parish Picnic.
I know that Hans Liljeberg and Steve Hebert have been working and
planning to make sure there are plenty of hamburgers and hotdogs for all of the
families that will attend this event. Hans
has also planned a cabbage ball game for the parents and kids.
I know this will be a fun time for everyone. Now
for the events planned for October. First
of all our monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at
7:30pm. Please plan on attending.
Our family donut mass is scheduled for October 14th, after the
9:00am mass. We will sit together in church at the 9:00am mass and then
invite everyone in church to join us for fellowship and donuts in the cafeteria.
Do the words School Fair have a special meaning to you, besides an
empty feeling in your wallet. The
school fair is where the Mens Club really shines.
Please plan on signing up to work the fair set up on October 16th
at 5:30pm (meet in the schoolyard). We
need workers as early as possible on this day to go to the storage locker and
load the truck with fair supplies. We
also need workers at the schoolyard at the same time to set up the fair booths.
Food and drinks will be provided by the co-op for all of the workers.
There will also be a set up of the electrical on October 17th,
and 18th at 6:00pm. The
fair will take place on October 19th, 20th and 21st.
We also need your help on these days for the Road Kill Booth the
Nickel Slide and the High Low and the Putt Putt Booth.
Roy Labourdette, Peter Comeaux and Todd Roser will have sign up sheet at
our meeting. Now, the most
important date to remember is the Tuesday after the fair: October 23rd
at 6:00pm. This is the date for the
FAIR TAKE DOWN. WE REALLY NEED
LOTS OF HELP ON THIS NIGHT. Food
and drinks will also be provided on this night by the co-op.
WE NEED ALL OF MEMBERS TO HELP SET UP THE FAIR.
LETS SHOW EVERYONE HOW GREAT OUR MENS CLUB REALLY IS.
PLEASE TRY TO WEAR ONE OF YOUR OLD MENS CLUB WORK SHIRTS AND SHOW YOUR
PRIDE IN OUR CLUB. Remember, We Work Hard,
Play Hard and PRAY HARD. Thank
you Jim for the years of service and friendship to everyone.
We will always remember you. Paul
