Presidents
Message May 2002 The
Finale Well,
the time has come to compose the final presidents message for this year.
As all of the other months of my term, April has been very busy and May
is not slowing down. We
had a great turnout for the work party to clean out the cafeteria.
I would like to thank everyone who helped move our equipment out of the
cafeteria. Chuck Talley organized a
great family barbecue and Donald Duzac treated us to another fantastic donut
mass. We
have also been working very hard on The Big Three events for our Mens
Club. The Big Three events
are the $10,000 Raffle, The Jazz Fest, and The Golf Classic. The $10,000 raffle committee members have been selling
tickets after all masses. Steve
Valdes, Peter Comeaux, and Chas Robards have been meeting to organize every part
of the raffle to make sure that we have a first class event. David Lynch, Steve Hebert and I have been twisting arms to
get people to sign up for the Jazz Festival and I have been praying for people
to sign up to sponsor or play in our golf tournament. These three events are the most important events of the year
for our club. For these events to
be successful we need to have participation from all of you.
Remember that the funds we earn at these events will be the funds that we
get to donate to the school and church next year. By
the time you get this newsletter the Jazz Festival will be in full operation.
The dates to pick up your free tickets and free parking passes are
Thursday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 23rd.
If you missed these dates and you are just realizing it, please call
David Lynch at 833-5327 or beep me at 1-800-511-9692 to make arrangements to
pick up your tickets. We need
everyone to take an active part in this event for it to be successful.
Please hold on to my beeper number listed above and my cell phone number
of 289-3348. I will have both of
these communications with me at the Jazz Fest. The
Installation Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1st at Zeakes
Restaurant, the doors open at 6:30pm and the open bar starts at 7:00pm.
If you didnt sign up ahead of time you can pay at the door.
This is our last meeting of the year and we invite you to join us in
starting off the new year in the right way. The
$10,000 raffle will be held on Saturday, May 11th at Jefferson
Orleans South. If you havent
purchased your ticket or if you know someone whom needs a ticket please call
Peter Comeaux at 844-9843, Chas Robards at 837-4194 or Steve Valdes at 834-0109.
We have got to sell all of our tickets before the day of this event. The
Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday June 21st. This event is custom
made for the man who needs a break from the everyday grind of work.
We need sponsors, prizes and you to sign up to play in the tournament
today. If you have plans to sign up
for the tournament, now is the time to do it.
To register you can call Charlie Giraud at 831-2196 or Sid Lapuyade at
834-7750 to register. My letter and the registration form are located in this
newsletter. The
last event of the year will be our Zephyrs Family Tailgate Party.
This event will take place on Sunday, June 2nd.
The Zephyrs are playing the Memphis Redbirds.
The game starts at 6:05pm and we will start the tailgating at 3:30.
The cost of the tickets are $8.00. Please
call Hans Liljeberg at 837-3963 to get your tickets. The
Summer Cabbage Ball Program is canceled at our schoolyard playground this year
due to the cafeteria renovations. But,
we have made arrangements with our buddy Johnny Beckman and Father T at
St. Frances Xavier church to offer our children an opportunity to play cabbage
ball in their newly formed program. I
promised Johnny some help with coaching and running the event if he got a big
response from our parish. So, if
any of you would like to sign your kids up for cabbage ball this summer please
call Johnny Beckman at 454-5874, or Tommy Barbier at 828-6087.
Since the new program may fill up quickly you need to call them
immediately. We will provide sign
up sheets to all the children at school in the next few weeks. Even
though this is the last presidents message for me as you can see there is
still a lot work to complete before the end of my term.
I also write the last message with many mixed feelings.
I have truly enjoyed my term as president of this great club.
I have had a wonderful group of guys on our board this year.
Each one of these men has sacrificed their valuable free time to make
sure that we have had a successful year. Every
event that we have sponsored this year has been planned to perfection and we
have been successful. I would like to thank my board members, all of our
committee heads, all of our past presidents and especially all of our great
members. My hope for the future of
our club is that we have inspired all of you to step up to the plate to run for
office or just get involved. Thanks
to all of you for the great memories that we have shared this year. Remember
that, We Work Hard, Play Hard and Pray Hard. Paul Paul Bates Da
