St. Catherine of Siena Men's Club
In our 39th year of Service and Support

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

SEPTEMBER 2001

Welcome back everyone!  Guess what, the Men’s Club has something very special to celebrate this year.  That’s right, our club is 30 years old.  Your board has been working and planning all summer long to make our 30th Anniversary Year the best year ever.

Our number one goal this year is to increase our membership.  Consider this a personal invitation to all of you to join us for this very special year.  Roy Labourdette, our membership director has a Summer Rush Party scheduled for Thursday, August 30, 2001.  The focus of this party is on new members and former members.  We ask that each current member bring a friend, neighbor, or a former member to the rush party on Thursday, August 30th.

We ask that all returning members join us on Wednesday, September 5th for our first general meeting of the year.  Please remember to fill out the membership information card on the back of this newsletter (please include your email address), and bring your check for dues in the amount of $40.00.  Your dues go a long way when you consider the benefits:  nine fabulous meals, an opportunity to stay physically active with our basketball and volleyball leagues, a chance to get involved in helping our kids, the school and church by joining one of our committees, a chance to meet new friends and make contacts, and most importantly a chance to bring your family closer by coaching your children at cabbage ball, attending our quarterly family donut masses or celebrating at our Christmas Brunch.  These are just a few reasons why our club is so special.

As you all know our three most important fundraisers of the year are:

1)       The $10,000.00 Raffle- May 11th, 2002 “Cooking up a Winner”

2)       The Jazz Fest Drink Booth- April 26th-28th ,2002 & May 2nd-5th , 2002

3)       The Men’s Club Golf Tournament- June 2002

We want all of our members to get involved in these three fundraisers.  This is where we get the money to donate to school and church organizations throughout the year.  One very simple way you can help out on the $10,000.00 Raffle is to put a deposit down on your ticket at the first meeting.  All you need is a $10.00 deposit to hold your ticket number for the year.  We need to have the raffle sold out before the date of the event.

September is going to be very busy.  Some events that we need you to attend are:

1)       September 5th our first general meeting

2)       September 8th BRITNEY DUGAS FISHING RODEO- a benefit fishing rodeo for Britney Dugas, an 11year old St. Catherine of Siena student who had a heart transplant over the summer.  Britney’s grandfather is a long time Men’s Club member and they need our help.  To join the cause and help out please contact Jerry White at 835-5031 or Mickey Lacombe at 835-1570. (see details in this newsletter)

3)       September 22nd- Playground Refurbishment.

4)       September 23rd- Parish Family Picnic (Men’s Club to help set up, cook and organize a family cabbage ball game) Bring the Family.

5)       September 26th- Men’s Club Board Meeting

The last thing that I need everyone to start thinking about is the school fair.  The fair date is October 19th-20th.  We will set up on October 16th, 17th, and if needed the 18th.  Please plan on showing up early on Tuesday the 16th at 5:30pm.  We need as many hands on deck to load the truck at the locker early so we don’t have to wait around late at night to get everything finished.

Remember that this is our 30th Anniversary Year and membership is our number one goal.  We plan on starting the meeting on September 5th on time, at 7:30pm.  Please be on time and remember to bring two checks, one for your dues and the other for your $10,000.00 raffle tickets.  We will also have a special 30th Anniversary golf shirt for sale at our first meeting.  Please join us for the meeting and please make your Men’s Club experience an active one.
